About Paul

I’m a Waterford Institute of Technology trained horticulturalist and a native of Carlow, Ireland.
My career in gardening began with a desire to want to grow Veg on my parents farm and has taken many different turns in the years since.
My first gardening job and a placement in the garden of the late Angela Jupe -Bellefield House and Gardens located in Co Offaly. This opened my eyes to the world of plants and introduced me the craft gardening skills I still use to this day.
This lead to a spending a number of years in two of the UK’s top specialist nurseries.  Firstly, at Evolution Plants, described as a Botanical Ark for wild collected plants and then at Crug Farm Plants a mecca for new, unusual and rare plants.
Here I was the Gardener and later Propagator, working for modern day plant hunters Bleddyn and Sue Wynn Jones.
In November of both 2016 and 17 I put what I have learnt to the ultimate test by joining a plant hunting expedition to the North of Vietnam.
Recently I've returned to Ireland working as a plantsperson, implementing and planting designs and advising on planting work. I now look at plants in a very different, but equally exciting way, as I incorporate all I have learnt into the creation of gardens.
Most of my work involves sourcing plants and designing soft landscaping schemes for clients as well as regular site visits to completed projects, ensuring the work is being properly maintained and tweaked where appropriate.
